I’ve been using Google Play to upload albums which I originally copied from actual physical media. I’ve been playing them from my phone on various cars using Play. I’m currently borrowing one which has Android Auto which provides very limited functionality for Play.

But Play is coming to an end and we have to migrate to Youtube Music. You download the new app and it transfers everything from Play. Open up Android Auto and the new icon appears.

All well and good, then.

Actually, no.

Kinja'd!!!

Want to use it with Android Auto? There’s a fee for that.

If you want to put your music on a Plex server they have and Android Auto app.

I had the same problem, I f ound something of a workaround. Start playing the music on your phone then hook up the phone to the vehicle. You can change songs but that's about it.

I have Play (Youtube Red now I guess) subscription, so I think this doesn’t affect me, but I am still a bit salty about Google cancelling services that work well.

I’m just glad they finally let me download my library in a non-proprietary format. I lost that hard drive years ago.

Really wish they would have put each artist/album in their own respective folders though. S orting through 6 0 gigs of individual tracks was a ton of fun.

This is yet another reason why I shall continue to use a few tiny SanDisk USB drives in the head unit. 2GB gives you more than enough music for a multiday   road trip even in FLAC or WMA format...
